How to Join the Rotary Club of Green Valley
An association of approximately 32,000 autonomous clubs in over 200 countries and geographical areas, Rotary International is one of the world's largest service organizations. The goal for a club's membership is an up-to-date and progressive representation of the community's business, vocational, and professional interests.
An important distinction between Rotary and other organizations is that membership in any Rotary Club is by invitation only. Often a person being considered for membership is invited by a member/sponsor to attend one or more club meetings to learn more about Rotary. The sponsor may then submit the name of the candidate to the club's membership committee.
An individual who is interested in membership, but doesn't know any Rotarians, may contact the Rotary Club of Green Valley directly by completing our Prospective Member Contact Form or visiting us at a Thursday morning meeting.
Membership is vital to a Rotary club's operations and community service activities. A primary goal of the Rotary Club of Green Valley is to continually expand the club with committed members who have the interest and ability to get involved in service and humanitarian projects.
Prospective members must:
What are the Attendance Requirements?
Rotary is built upon fellowship and friendships which develop from attendance at meetings. It is understood that among busy persons, a problem of attendance may arise. An attendance record of 50% is required to remain an active Rotarian. Any missed meeting must be made up within 14 days before or after the regular meeting.
One of the many benefits of Rotary Club membership is the luxury of being able to travel the world and never miss a weekly meeting. Club members are welcome and encouraged to visit clubs while traveling to make-up the meeting missed back home. There are also 12 other clubs that meet each week in the Las Vegas area.
Rotarians often ask what options exist if there is not a club in the area of travel, or if the member is home but an emergency causes him or her to miss a meeting. One option is to spend time participating in an interactive activity on a Rotary e-club Web site. Rotary International has approved the request for a limited number of clubs to form with virtual or electronic locations. A visit to one of these e-clubs may satisfy a club member's make-up requirement.
What does it cost to belong to the
Rotary Club of Green Valley?
Our initiation fee is $100, which includes your Rotary pin, plaques, and other Rotary materials. Annual dues are $120, and you will receive a subscription to the monthly Rotarian Magazine. Breakfast cost is $12 per week. To simplify accounting, our members are billed $250 quarterly. This covers the cost of meals, dues, an annual contribution to the Rotary Foundation, and other miscellaneous charges.
Members are occasionally "fined," a humorous device employed at meetings to recognize individual Rotarian achievements in the local and international community, or for birthdays, anniversaries, or for any reason deemed appropriate by the "Fine-Master" or the President.
Our members are also expected to make a commitment of their time, by participating in local or international activities or projects of the Rotary Club of Green Valley. These include both service projects and social events. In addition, we encourage members to aspire to leadership or committee roles within both our Club and our Rotary District.
