 District 5300 ANNOUNCES
2009-10 AMBASSADORIAL SCHOLAR

The Rotary Club of Green Valley is proud to announce that Hesham Elnagar has been selected as a Rotary Ambassadorial Scholar for 2008 - 09.  Hesham is sponsored by the Green Valley Club in Rotary’s District 5300, which coves most of Southern NV and a large portion of Southern CA.

 Hesham

Hesham Elnagar was born in Las Vegas and has lived in the Henderson/Green Valley area since he was four years old.  He has one older sister (Suzanne) who graduated from the University of Nevada Las Vegas with a BS in Nursing in 2007.  She is currently a Registered Nurse working at Mountain View Hospital under the Critical Care unit.  Hesham’s family, close friends, and dogs (Kandy and Spot) are the most important parts of his life.  His most memorable childhood memories come from the many trips he and his family took to Egypt visiting cousins, aunts, and uncles.  Hesham’s parents (Hamed and Georgette) immigrated to the United States nearly thirty years ago after growing up and attending college in Alexandria, Egypt.  Their sacrifice, hard work, and dedication have really proven strong, as they have raised two children who love them dearly.

Growing up in Henderson has been a blessing for Hesham.  Attending Nate Mack Elementary, Thurman White Middle, and Green Valley High, Hesham has been very fortunate to have attended such great schools.  In both middle and high school, Hesham began and developed his passionate path towards music, choir, and singing.  During his senior year, he served as choir president and led the department to receive their second Grammy and other coveted awards.  Aside from music, Hesham was also a floor gymnast in middle school, ran cross-country, and dived for the swimming team in high school.

In addition to such activities, Hesham fully engaged himself in his academics.  When he says fully engaged, he means recalling back in first grade that he would fail a coloring assignment for coloring outside the lines!  He supposes now that his coloring anxieties served him well as he graduated Salutatorian of his graduating class in 2005.

Education and learning has always been one of Hesham’s most important passions.  This leads him to pursue a career in educational instruction and administration.  Hesham plans to earn his PhD in Higher Education where he will focus on student engagement and lifelong learning.

Hesham will graduate from Northern Arizona University in May 2009 with a Bachelor of Arts with University Honors in Music and a minor in Mathematics.  After such, he has the honor and privilege to serve the Rotary Club of Green Valley, District 5300, and the United States of America as an Ambassadorial Scholar for the 2009-2010 scholarship period in the South Pacific.  During his anxious wait, he will be researching and developing presentations relating to his Honors Senior Thesis titled “Civic Engagement and Service Learning in American Higher Education.”  He will use this research to engage in educational and service related activities in hopes to introduce to various Rotary Clubs, communities, and students of all ages and backgrounds.  While abroad, he will study education and work with organizations on community literacy and numeracy projects.

Hesham’s goals in life include performing at a level that helps others reach, obtain, and experience life with a greater sense of happiness.  With that stated, he believes and has first handedly experienced the ideals Rotary International sets forth in making the world a stronger and happier place.  He would like to thank all the friendly Rotarians he has met which have welcomed him to this amazing organization.
