The Rotary Club of Green Valley, Henderson, was chartered in the spring of 1992 with thirty members. The first president was David Sanchez and Renata's, at that time Henderson's only upscale restaurant, was the meeting location. Four of the original members, Melinda Margolis, Jim Frey, Larry Bettis, and Kirk Bazoian, remain a part of the club today.
One of the first projects undertaken by the club was the sponsorship of the High School Senior All-Star Soccer games. Members Art Plunkett and Jim Frey were the first coordinators. The seventeenth annual competition was recently held at Green Valley High School with the Rotary Club of Green Valley as the title sponsor. For a long time, this event was the signature project for the club.
In 1994 the club moved its location from Renata's, which is now a bowling alley and sandwich bar, to The Country Inn, located at the corner of Mountain Vista and Valle Verde. The restaurant had an excellent room for meetings and the food was great. However, five years later the restaurant closed; it was demolished and is now the site of a CVS pharmacy. The leadership of the club searched for a new location, finding The Terrace on Warm Springs, where the club met until Fall of 2007. In September 2007, the club relocated to the Wildhorse Golf Club, where it currently meets.
Over the years the Rotary Club of Green Valley has been a supporter of many community projects and groups, including the Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Sewell Elementary School, Hope Link (formerly Henderson Allied Community Advocates), Nevada Child Seekers, and the Salvation Army.
The club has been very active at the district level having sponsored four members of Group Study Exchange Teams, a GSE Team Leader, and four Ambassadorial Scholars. Every year the club sponsors four participants to Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) from the Interact Clubs of Silverado and Green Valley High Schools.
International projects included refurbishing an ambulance that was sent to Armenia in 2000, helping to fund an elementary school project in Chile, supporting Tsunami relief to South and Southeast Asia, and purchasing wheel chairs for disabled children in Mexico. The club has recently partnered with other Rotary clubs in establishing a dental clinic in Tanzania, Africa and in helping to provide relief to Australian wildfire victims.
